I remember how I finally learned function pointers in C: it was from reading an open source project. Open source wass fundamental to my career; ensuring that everyone can have these opportunities is incumbent upon all of us who've benefited from it.
One of the trickier bits about using third-party dependencies is understanding what they're doing behind the scenes. And sometimes you need to dig in, read the code, and really understand exactly what they're doing; the code doesn't lie.
